Most avalanche burials come from not knowing the avalanche danger before entering riding areas. WPS is working with Ortovox on decreasing the risk of avalanche burials by providing you with the most current, up to date, and easy to use tools for identifying avalanche danger, locating buried victims, and digging them out. Ortovox and Western Power Sports now have a tool that can decrease your chances of encountering avalanches before it’s too late.- Check and Ride gives you the Avalanche risk level
- Gives you the slope aspect, or exposure
- You can also set the tendency, what the danger level is throughout the course of the day
- The angle of the slope, 97% of all avalanches occur on slopes with an angle of more than 30°
- The tool will also allow you to dial in the elevation of the slope in question
- The check and ride also has a built in compass
This small handy tool will help identify and determine the avalanche risk on any slope, and when used with the local avalanche reports will ensure you increase the chances of a safe and great time riding!
